It is time for us to say goodbye. Effective December 31st, 2020, Books N’ Bytes, Inc. will be closing its doors for the last time. Over the past 9+ years, Books N’ Bytes, previously Long Technical, has been Spokane’s only licensed “After Hours, On-Site Computer Repair” provider. We have built websites, developed custom software, administered dozens of network infrastructures, and donated countless hours of volunteer computer support to local and out-of-state non-profit organizations. 2020 has been a rough year for all of us. As COVID-19 has ravished the world, it has affected thousands of small businesses, many of which have closed permanently because of it. We are not one of those businesses, and we are not closing due to COVID-19. This year has been an eye-opener for us to the fact that our business model is unsustainable and has been for a long time.
The technology world’s landscape has changed drastically over the past decade, and we have not evolved with it. Computer hardware has become significantly cheaper and less cost-effective to repair. Coupled with the widespread adoption of cloud-based file backup solutions, it has all but removed the need for computer repair specialists. With the widespread adoption of online marketplaces (Upwork, Fiverr, etc.), we have found ourselves competing against a global sea of freelance network administrators, web designers, and software developers willing to deliver top-notch service for rates we can’t begin to match. Needless to say, we can’t compete in those arenas anymore.
To all of our customers, past and present, thank you for making the past nine years the experience of a lifetime. It has been a pleasure working with each and every one of you over the years, and we are grateful to have had the opportunity to do so. While we are closing our doors, we have no intention of leaving you “high and dry”. We will make every effort to make sure that your needs are met as we work through our shutdown process. For our computer repair and IT services customers, we will gladly point you in the direction of honest and skilled technicians that can continue to assist you. For our website and software clients, we will ensure that you have access to all of your products and source codes, and that any web hosting services or Social Media accounts we manage for you are transferred to another provider. As always, we will be available by phone or email during our normal business hours until we have finished our shutdown, and have made sure that each and every one of our customers has been taken care of.
